SUMMIT KICKOFF: THE SHAPESHIFTER FLOW

Step into a constantly evolving movement landscape!

Shapeshifter Flow is a dynamic Animal Flow session built around one central challenge: navigating changing space. Within and between movements your “movement window” can evolve. This creates challenge: angles change, base of support shifts, directions reverse and load redistributes.

Your task? Anticipate. Adapt. Mold your body. Maintain form.

This session will guide you through:

  • Focused rehearsal and refinement of key techniques
  • Exploration of how spatial constraints evolve within and between movements and transitions
  • Strategic sequence construction using movements from across L1, L2, and L3
  • Integration into an expressive and layered Flow

You will be challenged to preserve structural integrity while responding to spatial change. To control your center of mass as leverage shifts. To stay grounded when orientation rotates. To remain fluid under constraint.

Expect technical precision. Expect problem-solving. Expect moments where the window narrows and you must decide—quickly and cleanly—how to move through it.

By the end, you will execute a Shapeshifter Flow that demands awareness, adaptability, and composure in motion. The space will change. Your movement must evolve with it.

AF GROUP CLASSES: PROGRAMMING A 10-WEEK INTRO SERIES

You’ve earned your Certified Animal Flow Instructor title – so how do you start up a group class series? Unlike many fitness classes, Animal Flow does not work as a regular “drop in” class where anybody can show up for any class. Students who are new to AF must learn each movement, including the ability to perform it with proper technique and to understand the call out language. A successful class series needs to ensure that students can progress while still feeling challenged.

MI Miroslaw has developed an effective strategy for onboarding new students through a 10-week training cycle for beginners, which he has now been teaching for years at his fitness academy in Poland.

This session is designed to help AF Instructors understand the principles of working with a beginner/introductory group. It is structured as a lecture with some movement elements. Miro will provide an overview of how he programs the complete 10 weeks of classes. Participants will have the opportunity to perform individual elements step-by-step.

Come experience how Miro uses his “Less is more” motto with fewer techniques but more repetitions and work on technique.

Miroslaw “Miro” Basciuk is a Polish martial artist with over 20 years of experience, holding a Hung Gar Kung Fu master title and founding the Tiger and Crane Sports Academy, where more than 300 students train in Kung Fu, Animal Flow, and kettlebells. Since joining Animal Flow in 2016, his commitment and leadership have helped build one of the strongest Animal Flow communities in the world, all while managing a waste recycling business and raising a family. Guided by a philosophy of relentless self-improvement, patience, and collaboration, Miro models a disciplined, purposeful life – from his early morning movement practice to 30 years of vegetarianism – inspiring those around him in every arena.

COMBINING FITNESS EQUIPMENT WITH AF

Take a deep dive into incorporating fitness equipment into your Animal Flow practice. While AF is a Quadrupedal Movement Training (QMT) practice that typically uses no equipment, you can still use a variety of tools with specific movements to increase load, proprioceptive feedback and control.

MI Eve will take you through a variety of L1 movements in this session. With each one she’ll explore the goal of that movement and demonstrate how specific fitness equipment can be utilized to modify, regress, or enhance it.

Attendees are encouraged to have some of the following equipment and tools available to maximize their participation.

  • yoga mat
  • yoga block
  • foam roller
  • tennis ball
  • resistance band (1m, 10-20kg)

Evgenia “Eve” Kabanova is a leading advocate for movement education across Eastern Europe and Central Asia. With a background as an international-level acrobat, dance educator, and exercise science researcher, she combines technical expertise with a passion for helping people discover movement as a lifelong practice. CAN YOU SAY IT: MASTERING THE CALL OUT LANGUAGE

Explore the many ways that understanding the structure and details of the Animal Flow call out language will improve your own practice and ability to effectively coach others. This interactive session has participants examine the language in the context of progressively more difficult flows.

Animal Flow utilizes a specific and unique “call out language” that allows instructors and Flowists to share a common method for communicating how to perform a Flow. While learning the nuances of this language in an essential component of progressing in our AF practice, many Flowists find it difficult to focus on the many details.

MI John will review the framework of the AF callout language, beginning with L1 movements and flows and then layering in more complex flow design and advanced transitions. With each successive flow, participants will check their knowledge against the correct callout and receive feedback on commonly misunderstood language and concepts.

John Weeks is a lifelong movement practitioner, fitness coach, and owner of Tough Temple in Bethesda, Maryland, where he blends strength training, mobility, breathwork, and mindful movement to help people improve their health and performance. John’s connection to the Animal Flow practice deepened during his recovery from stage 3 cancer, when AF became a cornerstone of his rehabilitation. Today, he is passionate about sharing movement as a powerful tool for healing, self-discovery, and long-term well-being.

the intermediate group class: How to progress for success

Experience an intermediate level AF class taught using the formula developed for the weekly AF classes taught at Mike Fitch’s own Body Practice gym.

Teaching a beginner level AF class follows a straight-forward formula that introduces Level 1 movements and helps new students build a foundation of the movements. But how do you structure a higher level class for those students who are ready for more?

Teaching intermediate level classes requires finding a balance between ensuring students feel challenged yet successful, while helping students at different skill levels progress.

AF L2 Instructor Amanda Carlson will share the class format she uses when teaching the weekly intermediate level classes at Mike’s Body Practice gym. Participants will be taken through a sample class, with discussion of strategies, tips, and common issues along the way. She’ll cover key questions including:

  • What are some example strategies for planning the flow to be practiced during a specific class?
  • How do you decide which L2 / L3 movements a class is ready for?
  • How long should you spend introducing new movements?
  • How can you accommodate students who need more attention while not ignoring more experienced students?
  • What kind of warm-up integrates well with an intermediate class?

Amanda Carlson has over 20 years of experience as a dancer and movement educator, and 15+ years as a fitness professional. A longtime Animal Flow instructor and founding coach at Body Practice, Amanda brings a multifaceted approach to teaching, weaving together contemporary floorwork, strength training, and Animal Flow. Her work has taken her from New York City to Dubai and beyond, before returning home to Colorado, where she continues to dance, teach, and build community through movement. Amanda’s classes are fun, energetic, and open to all levels, focusing on alignment, form, and technique that will get you smiling and sweaty. She is passionate about true movement education for dancers, athletes, and movers of all types.
